COME JOIN US AT NAMPO

Agri Drainage will once again be at Nampo with a live subsurface drainage demonstration. Come and see first hand why you should consider Agri Drainage as you subsurface drainage solution.

SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE

The permanent solution to the problem is to install subsurface drainage, which pays for itself. It is a complete solution that has yield increase as its biggest advantage. This does not only allow for timely harvest but all field work (planting, spraying, etc.), all of which affect yield. Taking the above mentioned into consideration the following can be shown:

THE COST

The cost of subsurface drainage might be a little higher than the cost of one set of tracks, depending on the size of the area it is installed in. However, this is a once off investment and not a capital layout every 5 years as in the case of tracks.

CAPITAL LAYOUT

The capital layout for subsurface drainage can now be financed over a 5 year period making it even more cost effective and affordable. This allows for the increase in yield to cover the repayment of the system.

TIMELY

It allows for ALL field work to be done on time.

LONG TERM INVESTMENT

Subsurface drainage can be seen as a long term investment on your land because if maintained properly it will last for several generations.

INCREASE IN YIELDS

Subsurface drainage restores the yield on a specific problem area to level up with the rest of the field. In this case we will have a yield increase from 2.5 tons per hectare back to 4.5 tons per hectare .

TRACK CONVERSION

A popular solution for very wet problem areas in lands is to convert harvesters to a track system. The advantage is being able to access the problem area to harvest the little yield that the problem area produced. The disadvantages however outweigh the above mentioned advantage in the following manner:

THE COST

The cost of converting a harvester to a track system is approximately R1 ,200’000.00.

CAPITAL LAYOUT

Most farmers will replace a combine every 5 years and with it the tracks, thus forcing the farmer to do a capital layout of R350’000.00 every 5 years.

INCREASE IN YIELDS

Converting to a track system does not increase the yield of the problem area so it stays at a loss, 2.25 tons per hectare.

IN CONCLUSION

Subsurface drainage is a once off larger investment but it has significant yield and income increase. Subsurface drainage is a long term holistic solution with a 4 7% higher future return on investment making it the better investment option.
